Wildlife

Looking for some wild animals? The Yukon has 254 species of birds, over 100 species of mammals and 38 species of fish. We have herds of wood bison, musk oxen and caribou. There are moose, dall sheep, stone sheep, fannin sheep, mountain goats and elk.

We’re home for all kinds of bears: polar, grizzly, black and even blue (a rare colour phase of bear). Game farms and wildlife preserves make filming the Yukon’s native beasts easy. Bison, musk oxen, mountain goats, moose, caribou, deer and sheep can be filmed right in Whitehorse. Yukon predators range from arctic foxes and wolves, to lynx and wolverine. That’s why we have such a low crime rate!
