Work Permits in Canada

It is the policy of the Government of Canada that Canadian Citizens and permanent residents of Canada be given first opportunity to fill positions in Canada.

Persons who have obtained employment authorizations from Citizenship & Immigration are also entitled to work in Canada. These authorizations are issued at the Canadian visa office abroad, or for U.S. residents, at ports of entry.
Film and television producers who wish to bring foreign workers to Canada should contact the Canada Employment Centre closest to the location of production.

Allow a four week lead time for consultations between Human Resource Development Canada (HRDC), the film and television producers (employers), and the unions and guilds. There is a processing fee of $150 for an employment authorization.
Crews of three or less coming to Canada for a period of less than three weeks, for Americans, and six weeks, for other foreign film crews, to produce tourism promotions for non-Canadian audiences are exempt from employment validation.
